How did you sleep in 2017?

This past year was truly an eventful time in the United States. From the total solar eclipse, to the first year of a new presidency, to catastrophic hurricanes, we wonder how we slept.

Based on data from their user database spanning from 2016 to 2017, a sleep report from Sleep Cycle takes an in depth look at how residents of the U.S. slept this past year. The data shows that the area where people live–and the political climate–can affect their sleep.

Fitbit also collected data from 6 billion nights of its customers’ sleep, recording length of sleep and sleep stages. Their results show that the average hours slept for both men and woman was below the recommended length of 7-9 hours.
